About a hundred works by some thirty artists from the Centre Pompidou's photography collection, shown at the Grand Palais during Paris Photo 2026 for the bicentenary of photography.
Vorschau: geschrieben vor der Eröffnung
A woman with a shaved head and a checked shirt leans on the back of a white chair punched with holes, and looks straight into the lens. That's Andrzej Steinbach's Figure I-II (2015), two prints nearly a metre tall, given to the Centre Pompidou in 2024.
Around it hang about 100 works by some 30 artists from the Centre's photography collection, many of them recent acquisitions. The themes are Making the Image, To Infinity and Identities: Robert Cumming and Kunié Sugiura tinker with cameras and software, Timm Ulrichs, Dinh Q Lê and Eileen Quinlan work with copies and replicas, and Martha Wilson and Sam Contis take on the portrait.
It's inside Paris Photo, in the Grand Palais's ground-floor south-east gallery, for four days only. You walk in from aisles of galleries selling prints, and here the photographs belong to a museum. A fair ticket gets you in (indicatively €36 on weekdays, €41 at the weekend). Hours are 1pm to 8pm Thursday to Saturday, 1pm to 7pm on Sunday.

Look for the black-and-white portrait of a woman with a shaved head, arm hooked over a white chair, staring back at you from a print nearly a metre tall.
Under-12s get into Paris Photo free with an accompanying adult.
