Das Museo Cerralbo befindet sich im prachtvollen Madrider Stadtpalais, das der 17. Marqués de Cerralbo in den 1880er- und 1890er-Jahren eigens errichten ließ, um seine privaten Sammlungen zu präsentieren. Seit seiner Eröffnung für die Öffentlichkeit im Jahr 1944 kaum verändert, zeigt das Palais Gemälde, Rüstungen, archäologische Funde, Münzen und Kunsthandwerk noch exakt so, wie der Hausherr sie einst in seinen vergoldeten Salons, dem Festsaal und der Bibliothek arrangierte. Als intime Zeitkapsel bildet es den perfekten Kontrapunkt zu den großen staatlichen Museen Madrids.
