Das 1893 gegründete Museu Nacional de Arqueologia ist seit 1903 in den ehemaligen Schlafsälen der Mönche im Mosteiro dos Jerónimos untergebracht. Es beherbergt Portugals bedeutendste Sammlung prähistorischer, römischer und mittelalterlicher Fundstücke sowie ägyptische Antiquitäten und kostbare antike Goldschätze. Seit dem 18. April 2022 ist es wegen einer umfassenden, durch den Aufbau- und Resilienzplan (PRR) finanzierten Renovierung für die Öffentlichkeit geschlossen; für die zweite Bauphase wurde noch kein Wiedereröffnungstermin bekannt gegeben.
