Das 2008 von der Fundação Oriente im Gebäude Pedro Álvares Cabral eröffnete Museu do Oriente befindet sich in einem ehemaligen Kühlhaus für Kabeljau am Ufer von Alcântara und widmet sich den Verbindungen zwischen Portugal und Asien. In den Dauerausstellungen von Portuguese Presence in Asia sind Namban-Paravents, indo-portugiesische Elfenbeinarbeiten und eine der bedeutendsten Sammlungen chinesischen Exportporzellans des Landes zu sehen. Die Kwok On Collection mit mehr als 15.000 Objekten widmet sich der asiatischen darstellenden Kunst – von Masken und Puppen bis hin zu Theaterkostümen – und wird durch ein abwechslungsreiches Programm temporärer Ausstellungen ergänzt.
