Das Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts ist das einzige Gebäude in Nordamerika, das von dem gebürtigen Schweizer Architekten Le Corbusier entworfen wurde. Er realisierte den 1963 eröffneten Bau gemeinsam mit dem chilenischen Architekten Guillermo Jullian de la Fuente. Eine S-förmige Betonrampe führt Besucher von der Quincy Street hinauf und leitet sie mitten durch das dritte Obergeschoss, vorbei an den Fenstern der Ateliers – Le Corbusiers Versuch einer baulich erfahrbaren „Synthese der Künste“. Heute zeigt das Carpenter Center zeitgenössische Kunst in den Galerien auf Level 1, Level 3 und in der Sert Gallery und bietet Auftragswerke, Publikationen, öffentliche Veranstaltungen sowie Künstlerresidenzen – alles bei freiem Eintritt und öffentlich zugänglich. Es teilt sich das Gebäude mit Harvards Department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies sowie dem Harvard Film Archive.
