Das nationale Kunstmuseum Kataloniens ist im Palau Nacional untergebracht, der für die Internationale Ausstellung von 1929 errichtet wurde und seit 1934 seine Sammlung beherbergt. Bekannt ist es vor allem für seine romanischen Wandmalereien aus Kirchen, die zwischen 1919 und 1923 aus Pyrenäenkirchen entfernt wurden – allen voran die Apsis von Sant Climent de Taüll. Die Sammlung reicht über die Malerei der Gotik, der Renaissance und des Barock bis zum katalanischen Modernisme und Noucentisme sowie zur Fotografie und zur Kunst des Spanischen Bürgerkriegs. Von den Dachterrassen bietet sich ein Panoramablick über Barcelona.
