تأسس Institute of Contemporary Art / Boston (ICA) عام 1936 باسم Boston Museum of Modern Art، ليصبح أحد أقدم مؤسسات الفن المعاصر في الولايات المتحدة، قبل أن ينتقل إلى واجهة Seaport البحرية في عام 2006. صممت شركة Diller Scofidio + Renfro هذا المبنى الممتد على مساحة 65 ألف قدم مربعة على هيئة شريط متموّج؛ حيث يرتفع مسار Harborwalk في Boston ليشكّل مدرج Jill Medvedow Grandstand العام، ثم ينساب إلى الداخل ليكون أرضية المسرح وسقفه، بينما يمتد «صندوق المعارض» في الطابق العلوي ككتلة كابولية معلّقة تطل على حافة المياه وتستند إلى أربعة دعامات عملاقة. وأسفل هذا الجزء البارز، تنحدر مدرجات Poss Family Mediatheque باتجاه الميناء. لا يضم المتحف معرضاً دائماً، بل تتجدد أروقته دورياً بمعارض مؤقتة وأعمال فنية بتكليف خاص. ويدير ICA أيضاً مبنى Watershed، وهو ملحق موسمي مجاني يقع داخل حوض سابق لبناء السفن في East Boston، ويمكن الوصول إليه عبر العبّارة مباشرة من المتحف.
