作為全美唯一專門收藏肖像藝術的博物館,自 1968 年起進駐 Old Patent Office Building。這座建於 1836 年的 National Historic Landmark,現由館方與 Smithsonian American Art Museum 共同使用。二樓展區「America's Presidents」藏有白宮以外唯一一套完整的歷任總統肖像,當中以 Gilbert Stuart 所繪的 George Washington「Lansdowne portrait」,以及 Kehinde Wiley 於 2018 年創作的 Barack Obama 畫像最為矚目。館內其餘藏品涵蓋殖民時期的肖像以至當代委約之作;而在展廳之間,覆以巨型玻璃天幕的 Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard,更成為公眾免費休憩的城市客廳。請注意:一樓部分展廳目前正進行翻新工程,暫停開放直至另行通知,出發前建議先瀏覽博物館官方網站查閱詳情。
