博物館於1938年由收藏家 Jeon Hyeong-pil（號 Kansong）創立，原名 Bohwagak，是韓國首間私人美術館。建築由現代建築先驅 Park Gil-ryong 設計，旨在保護國寶免遭日本殖民時期掠奪，館藏包括一件以相當於20間瓦頂房屋的價格購入的青瓷瓶，以及 Hunminjeongeum 手稿。博物館現由 Kansong Art and Culture Foundation 管理，每年仍只舉辦兩次售票展覽，屆時才向公眾開放；每次展覽均從館藏中選件，涵蓋十二件國寶及數十件寶物，橫跨高麗青瓷、朝鮮繪畫與書法，以及佛教雕塑。

Open to the public only during two annual exhibition periods: a spring show (late April-early May) and an autumn show (late September-early October), each running roughly 6-8 weeks. During an exhibition the museum opens Tuesday-Sunday 10:00-18:00, closed Mondays, by advance online reservation only via kansong.org. Outside these exhibition windows the museum is closed to visitors. As of 24 September 2026 no autumn 2026 exhibition dates had been announced yet.
