Built in 1916-18 as the country residence of collectors Wilhelm and Henny Hansen, Ordrupgaard opened to the public in 1953 and holds one of Northern Europe's finest collections of French Impressionism alongside Danish art around 1900, including Vilhelm Hammershøi and L. A. Ring. Zaha Hadid added a black lava-concrete wing in 2005 and Snøhetta a largely underground gallery for the French collection in 2021. The grounds include an art park with works by Olafur Eliasson and Jeppe Hein, and designer Finn Juhl's 1942 house, preserved with its original furniture.
