Museum of Islamic Art於1881年創立，1903年遷入現址這座專門建造的新馬木留克式建築。館內收藏逾十萬件文物，是全球伊斯蘭藝術品收藏最豐富的博物館之一，其中約四千五百件精選展品分佈於兩層樓、共25個展廳內。館藏年代橫跨公元7世紀的Umayyad王朝，一直延伸至19世紀的奧斯曼帝國時期，涵蓋精雕木作、陶瓷、金屬工藝、玻璃器、水晶製品、織物，以及以銀墨書寫、彌足珍貴的《古蘭經》手抄本。館內珍品包括馬木留克時期用於開啟Ka'ba的鑰匙，以及飾有古老庫法體銘文的織物。2014年1月，一場針對附近警察總部的汽車炸彈襲擊令博物館嚴重損毀；經過多年修復，博物館於2017年重新對外開放。
