雕塑家 Frederic Marès(1893–1991)於1946年將自己的收藏捐贈予 Barcelona;兩年後,博物館於昔日 Barcelona 伯爵皇家宮殿的一部分開幕,位置毗鄰大教堂,而宮殿的庭院花園亦保存至今。雕塑展廳展示由古代至19世紀的西班牙雕刻,當中以彩繪木雕像為主,亦包括一件歸於 Master of Cabestany 名下的羅曼式浮雕。Marès 稱為「Sentimental Museum」的17個展室收藏家展室,密集陳列扇子、煙斗、鐘錶、玩具、鑰匙,以及展現19世紀日常生活的照片;他的書房兼圖書館則展示其本人創作的雕塑。
