雕塑家 Frederic Marès（1893–1991）於1946年將自己的收藏捐贈予 Barcelona；兩年後，博物館於昔日 Barcelona 伯爵皇家宮殿的一部分開幕，位置毗鄰大教堂，而宮殿的庭院花園亦保存至今。雕塑展廳展示由古代至19世紀的西班牙雕刻，當中以彩繪木雕像為主，亦包括一件歸於 Master of Cabestany 名下的羅曼式浮雕。Marès 稱為「Sentimental Museum」的17個展室收藏家展室，密集陳列扇子、煙斗、鐘錶、玩具、鑰匙，以及展現19世紀日常生活的照片；他的書房兼圖書館則展示其本人創作的雕塑。
