Wiedeńskie muzeum kultur świata posiada w swoich zbiorach ponad 400 000 obiektów etnograficznych i archeologicznych – od jedynego zachowanego starożytnego meksykańskiego pióropusza, przez polinezyjską kolekcję Jamesa Cooka i brązy z Beninu, po model rezydencji daimyō z epoki Edo w Japonii. Założone jako dział etnograficzny cesarskiego muzeum historii naturalnej i przemianowane na Weltmuseum Wien w 2013 roku, otworzyło się ponownie w 2017 roku z 14 salami wystawowymi w skrzydle Corps de Logis pałacu Neue Burg przy Heldenplatz. Wystawy stałe, obok zmiennych ekspozycji czasowych, otwarcie podejmują temat pochodzenia eksponatów i ich drogi do Wiednia, w tym kwestię kolonialnych grabieży.
