Wzniesiony w 1898 roku przez Josepha Marię Olbricha jako architektoniczny manifest ugrupowania Secesji Wiedeńskiej, biały gmach zwieńczony kopułą z liści laurowych wciąż nosi słynną dewizę: „Każdej epoce jej sztukę, sztuce jej wolność”. Dziś jest prowadzoną przez artystów przestrzenią wystawienniczą poświęconą międzynarodowej sztuce współczesnej, prezentującą równolegle kilka wystaw indywidualnych. W podziemiach na stałe eksponowany jest Fryz Beethovena (1902) Gustava Klimta.
