Główny budynek Seoul Museum of Art w Seosomun znajduje się w centrum Seulu, za pałacem Deoksugung. Jego renesansowa fasada dawnego sądu z 1928 roku została zachowana i pełni funkcję wejścia do nowoczesnego skrzydła wystawienniczego, dobudowanego w 2002 roku. Od otwarcia w 1988 roku SeMA stało się najważniejszą w mieście instytucją sztuki współczesnej, organizując ważne wystawy sztuki koreańskiej i międzynarodowej na trzech piętrach wystawienniczych oraz w podziemnej sali. Łukowa fasada dawnego sądu ma status obiektu dziedzictwa kulturowego – w 2006 roku wpisano ją do rejestru jako zabytek kultury Seulu nr 237.
