The work of production designer Sarah Greenwood and set decorator Katie Spencer, and the impact of their craft on a film's look.
Strona muzeumAmong the oversized props from Barbieland is a shelf of pun-titled books, one of them called Barbie Karenina, which is this show's whole title in two words. Nearby are a giant hairbrush and toothbrush, a Mojo Dojo Casa House toy with its protein jars, and the pink Corvette, which you can climb into.
The route runs from dark to bright. You start at a 1:25 model of the theatre set Greenwood and Spencer built for Anna Karenina, remade for the show because the original no longer exists, then pass through Beauty and the Beast to Barbie. At the end is a copy of their "blank space" office, with their own desks shipped from London, and a table where you dress a white card model set yourself.
It's the museum's first exhibition on production design, and it closes on 18 October. Entry is included in museum admission ($25 adults, free for 17 and under), in the Rolex Gallery on level 3. The museum is closed Tuesdays.
The Anna Karenina theatre model
A 1:25 model of the theatre where the whole film plays out, rebuilt for this show, opens the exhibition beside a video montage.
The enchanted rose
The Beauty and the Beast rose sits under its Swarovski bell jar, the glass hand-etched with a frosted design.
The Beast's shredded portrait
The slashed painting of the Beast's former self hangs near the castle's ornate piano and stool, with Cogsworth and Lumière close by.
Barbie's pink Corvette
The car from Barbie is parked in the Barbieland section, and visitors are allowed to sit inside it.
The blank space
Greenwood and Spencer's real desks, shipped from London, are set up as their office, covered in colour swatches, sketches and notes.
You only want Barbie: it is one of three main film sections, after Anna Karenina and Beauty and the Beast.
Under-18s get in free. Kids can sit in the pink Corvette and decorate a scale-model set at the hands-on table.
