In Magdalena Jetelová's The Continuation of Endgame (1996), a couple dances in a living room beside a fitted kitchen while the others sit and watch. It comes from the collection of the GDR's Centre for Art Exhibitions, whose staff used to select and buy work at this gallery, and whose purchases left women underrepresented.

The reopening show flips that: all eight artists are women. Jetelová, Eva Vent and Gundula Schulze Eldowy, from that old collection now held by the ifa, hang alongside contemporaries from Eastern Europe. Lesia Pcholka joined the protests in Belarus, served a prison sentence and now lives in exile in Berlin. Luise Schröder works from years of research into East German feminist groups.

You can walk in off Kastanienallee without a ticket: entry is free, and the whole show is on the ground floor. It is open Wednesday to Monday, 12:00 to 20:00. The curators lead free tours on 11 November and 16 December at 18:00, no booking needed.

  • Magdalena Jetelová, The Continuation of Endgame (1996)

A large black-and-white scene from the ifa collection: a couple dancing in a living room next to a fitted kitchen, watched by people seated in the shadows.

  • Luise Schröder, Sie hatte sich angewöhnt, keine Angst zu haben (2026)

Look up for blue printed fabric banners hung from the ceiling, showing a woman's face and a clenched hand with the words "Wir sind" and "traurig, aber".
