Il Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts è l'unico edificio del Nord America progettato dall'architetto di origine svizzera Le Corbusier, realizzato in collaborazione con l'architetto cileno Guillermo Jullian de la Fuente e inaugurato nel 1963. Una rampa elicoidale in calcestruzzo a forma di «S» accoglie i visitatori da Quincy Street e li conduce attraverso il terzo piano, costeggiando le vetrate degli atelier: il tentativo di Le Corbusier di trasformare la circolazione stessa in una «sintesi delle arti». Oggi il Carpenter Center propone una ricca programmazione di arte contemporanea nelle sue gallerie Level 1, Level 3 e Sert Gallery, tra nuove commissioni, pubblicazioni, eventi pubblici e residenze d'artista, il tutto a ingresso libero e aperto a chiunque. L'edificio è inoltre condiviso con il Department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies di Harvard e con il celebre Harvard Film Archive.
