One, Five, Twelve. Eighty Years of Premio Strega

Orain ikusgai2026(e)ko apirilaren 29(a) – 2026(e)ko azaroaren 1(a)·6 €

An "ideal library" of over a thousand volumes traces eight decades of Italy's leading literary prize, framing it as a seismograph of the country's cultural and linguistic change.

Gehiago: Erroma

At the entrance you're handed a small pocket book: not a catalogue, but notes and captions for every year of the prize, yours to keep. The Bellonci Foundation's director calls it "a show to read".

It's one room on MACRO's first floor, opposite the library. Along its walls run 1,023 first editions in date order from 1947: each year's twelve candidates, five finalists and one winner, hence the title. Above them, an unbroken strip of photographs follows the votes, the waiting and the poses. In the middle stands a room within the room, a diorama of Maria Bellonci's living room, where writers, publishers and artists shaped the prize, furnished with objects and artworks from her house. If the pile by your bed makes you feel guilty, this room adds 1,023 more.

Curator Maria Luisa Frisa wanted visitors to swing between reader and spectator. Entry is in the €6 MACRO ticket (€4 for ages 7 to 26); the museum is closed Mondays, and the show ends on 1 November.
