Dieses Art-déco-Herrenhaus wurde 1933 als Tokioter Residenz von Prinz Asaka Yasuhiko errichtet und gemeinsam mit dem französischen Künstler Henri Rapin gestaltet; die dekorativen Glasarbeiten stammen von René Lalique. Nachdem es zunächst als Amtssitz des Premierministers und anschließend als staatliches Gästehaus diente, wurde es 1983 als Museum eröffnet. Bei einer Renovierung im Jahr 2014 kam ein von dem Fotografen Hiroshi Sugimoto entworfenes modernes Nebengebäude hinzu. Zum Gelände gehört außerdem ein japanischer Garten mit einem Teehaus aus dem Jahr 1936 und Skulpturen im Außenbereich.
