Das Seosomun-Hauptgebäude des Seoul Museum of Art liegt im Zentrum Seouls hinter dem Deoksugung-Palast. Seine Fassade im Stil der Renaissance, die 1928 für ein Gerichtsgebäude errichtet wurde, ist erhalten geblieben und bildet den Eingang zu einem modernen, 2002 hinzugefügten Ausstellungstrakt. Seit seiner Eröffnung 1988 hat sich das SeMA zu Seouls führender Institution für zeitgenössische Kunst entwickelt. Auf drei Ausstellungsetagen und in einer unterirdischen Halle zeigt es bedeutende Ausstellungen koreanischer und internationaler Kunst. Die gewölbte Fassade des ehemaligen Gerichtsgebäudes steht unter Denkmalschutz und wurde 2006 als Kulturgut der Stadt Seoul Nr. 237 ausgewiesen.
