Das 2012 neben dem Gwanghwamun Square eröffnete Museum zeichnet Südkoreas Weg vom späten 19. Jahrhundert bis in die Gegenwart nach. Die Dauerausstellung in der History Hall gliedert sich in drei chronologische Abschnitte: den Widerstand während der Kolonialzeit, den Wiederaufbau und die Demokratisierung nach dem Krieg sowie den Aufstieg des Landes zu einer globalen Wirtschafts- und Kulturmacht. In der Experience Hall können Besucherinnen und Besucher anhand von Alltagsgegenständen verschiedene Jahrzehnte erkunden und selbst aktiv werden. Wechselnde Sonderausstellungen widmen sich einzelnen Momenten und Themen der modernen koreanischen Geschichte.
