The Studio Museum in Harlem wurde 1968 gegründet und widmet sich Künstlern afrikanischer Abstammung sowie Kunst, die von Black Culture inspiriert ist. Die Sammlung umfasst zwei Jahrhunderte und beherbergt Werke von Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Elizabeth Catlett und Betye Saar sowie ein gefeiertes Archiv von James VanDerZees Harlem-Fotografien. Im November 2025 eröffnete das Museum in einem siebenstöckigen, 82.000 Quadratfuß großen Gebäude, das von David Adjaye entworfen wurde – das erste Haus, das eigens für die Institution errichtet wurde.
