Das 1859–60 nach Entwürfen von Edward Clarke Cabot erbaute Gibson House gehörte zu den ersten Wohnhäusern auf dem neu aufgeschütteten Gelände von Back Bay – ein Reihenhaus im Stil der Neorenaissance aus rotem Backstein und Sandstein. Zwischen 1859 und 1954 lebten drei Generationen der Familie Gibson samt Hausangestellten in 137 Beacon Street. Der letzte Bewohner, Charles Hammond Gibson Jr., vermachte das Haus samt Inventar zur Gründung eines Museums, das 1957 seine Türen öffnete. So blieb ein außergewöhnlich vollständiges viktorianisches Interieur erhalten: Über fünf Etagen hinweg sind originale Tapeten, Textilien, Möbel und persönliche Gegenstände der Familie bis heute an ihrem angestammten Platz. Das 1992 zum Boston Landmark und 2001 zum National Historic Landmark erklärte Haus kann ausschließlich im Rahmen von Führungen besichtigt werden.
