La Gemäldegalerie dels Staatliche Museen zu Berlin acull una de les col·leccions de pintura europea dels segles XIII al XVIII més importants del món, amb obres mestres de van Eyck, Dürer, Holbein, Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio, Rembrandt i Vermeer. Prop d'un miler d'obres s'exposen en 72 sales amb il·luminació zenital a l'edifici de 1998 dissenyat per Hilmer & Sattler al Kulturforum, ordenades per escoles i períodes al voltant d'un gran vestíbul central.
