Construït entre el 1898 i el 1904 segons els plànols d'Ernst von Ihne com a Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum, el Bode-Museum i la seva imponent cúpula s'alcen directament sobre el riu Spree, a l'extrem nord de la Museum Island, declarada Patrimoni de la Humanitat per la UNESCO.
