افتُتح هذا المتحف عام 2012 بجوار ساحة غوانغهوامون، ويرصد مسيرة كوريا الجنوبية من أواخر القرن التاسع عشر حتى اليوم. وتُعرض في قاعة History Hall الدائمة محطات التاريخ ضمن ثلاثة أقسام مرتبة زمنياً، تتناول المقاومة في الحقبة الاستعمارية، وإعادة الإعمار بعد الحرب ومسيرة التحول الديمقراطي، وصعود البلاد لتصبح قوة اقتصادية وثقافية عالمية. أما قاعة Experience Hall التفاعلية، فتتيح للزوار استكشاف عقود مختلفة من خلال أشياء من الحياة اليومية، فيما يتناول برنامج المعارض الخاصة المتجددة لحظات وموضوعات محددة من التاريخ الكوري الحديث.
