أسّست الملكة أميليا المتحف عام 1905، ويضم Museu Nacional dos Coches ما يصفه بأنه أهم مجموعة في العالم من العربات الرسمية للدولة: أكثر من 70 مركبة تاريخية تمتد على مدى أربعة قرون. ومن أبرز مقتنياته عربات النصر التي رافقت السفارة البرتغالية إلى البابا كليمنت الحادي عشر عام 1716، وعربة اللاندو التي اغتيل فيها الملك كارلوس الأول عام 1908. ومنذ عام 2015، تُعرض المجموعة في مبنى جديد صمّمه Paulo Mendes da Rocha، الحائز جائزة بريتزكر، قبالة المدرسة الملكية القديمة للفروسية في بيليم.
