博物馆于1938年由收藏家全蓉弼（号澗松）创办，初名宝华阁，是韩国首家私人美术馆。为守护国宝、避免其在日本殖民统治时期遭到掠夺，博物馆由现代建筑先驱朴吉龙设计建造；馆藏包括一件以相当于20栋瓦房的价格购得的青瓷瓶，以及《训民正音》手稿。如今，博物馆由澗松美术文化财团运营，每年仍只举办两场需购票入场的展览并向公众开放。每场展览都会从馆藏中精选展品，呈现十二件韩国国宝及数十件宝物，涵盖高丽青瓷、朝鲜王朝绘画与书法，以及佛教雕塑。

Open to the public only during two annual exhibition periods: a spring show (late April-early May) and an autumn show (late September-early October), each running roughly 6-8 weeks. During an exhibition the museum opens Tuesday-Sunday 10:00-18:00, closed Mondays, by advance online reservation only via kansong.org. Outside these exhibition windows the museum is closed to visitors. As of 24 September 2026 no autumn 2026 exhibition dates had been announced yet.
