Otwarte w 2001 roku Leopold Museum powstało na bazie zbiorów gromadzonych przez pięć dekad przez Rudolfa i Elisabeth Leopoldów, przy wsparciu Republiki Austrii oraz Oesterreichische Nationalbank. Kolekcja licząca ponad 5000 dzieł skupia się na sztuce austriackiej pierwszej połowy XX wieku – od secesji po ekspresjonizm. Muzeum posiada największy na świecie zbiór prac Egona Schielego, obejmujący ponad 220 dzieł, a także kluczowe obrazy Gustava Klimta, Oskara Kokoschki i Richarda Gerstla. Długoterminowa wystawa „Wiedeń 1900: Narodziny modernizmu” (Vienna 1900: Birth of Modernism) prezentuje je w kontekście mebli, rzemiosła artystycznego i idei epoki.
