Japan Folk Crafts Museum (Nihon Mingeikan) założył w 1936 roku filozof i krytyk Yanagi Soetsu, twórca terminu „mingei” (rzemiosło ludowe), którym chciał podkreślić piękno codziennych, anonimowo wykonywanych przedmiotów. Muzeum mieści się w tradycyjnym japońskim budynku, do którego przeniesiono bramę z epoki Meiji z Tochigi. Jego kolekcja liczy około 17 000 obiektów, w tym ceramikę, tkaniny, wyroby lakierowane i przedmioty z drewna z Japonii oraz innych krajów. W głównych galeriach prezentowane są zmieniające się wystawy czasowe, a obok nich – niewielka ekspozycja kolekcji stałej. Przylegający do muzeum West Building, dawna rezydencja Yanagi, jest udostępniany zwiedzającym tylko w wybrane dni.
