National Hangeul Museum otwarto w 2014 roku obok National Museum of Korea, w dzielnicy Yongsan. Muzeum przedstawia historię hangeul – koreańskiego pisma stworzonego przez króla Sejonga Wielkiego w 1443 roku – poprzez kaligrafię, historyczne manuskrypty i interaktywne galerie. Zbiory liczące około 90 000 obiektów ukazują wynalezienie alfabetu, jego tłumienie w okresie kolonialnym oraz jego współczesny zasięg na świecie. W muzeum działają także osobne Children’s Museum i Hangeul Learning Center. Pożar, który wybuchł 1 lutego 2025 roku podczas rozbudowy, poważnie uszkodził budynek. Muzeum jest obecnie zamknięte na czas napraw konstrukcyjnych i rozbudowy; ponowne otwarcie zaplanowano na październik 2028 roku. W międzyczasie wystawy i programy edukacyjne są nadal organizowane w partnerskich instytucjach w Seulu.
