iDOX Centre for Contemporary ArtHolešovice
Retrospective of drawings and paintings by David Tibet, founder of Current 93, featuring recurring visionary motifs of children, angels and apocalyptic landscapes.
Zapowiedź: napisana przed otwarciem wystawy
Every room of this show gets its own soundtrack, made by Current 93, the band Tibet founded. An LP of excerpts came out to announce the exhibition, and the complete room soundtracks fill a six-CD set. This is the one gallery visit where you should take your headphones off.
You walk through Tibet's own drawings and paintings, chosen with him from across his whole career. DOX is firm that they are not album art or illustrations of songs. The same figures keep coming back: children, stars, birds, angels, sacred names and apocalyptic landscapes, out of a reading list that runs from William Blake and M.R. James to Thomas Ligotti.
The doors open on 22 October at 7pm. On 23 November Current 93 play two different concerts in the DOX+ hall, at 6pm and 8:30pm, for 1,400 CZK including same-day entry to the show. Otherwise a 360 CZK ticket covers every current DOX exhibition, Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 to 19:00.
The Current 93 room soundtracks
Listen as you move: each room plays its own piece, mostly instrumental, built from harmonium drones and fragments of older Current 93 recordings.
DOX describes the imagery as poised between innocence and terror, with apocalyptic landscapes throughout. Children 7 to 15 pay 150 CZK, under-7s are free, and a family ticket is 720 CZK.
