On Fifth Avenue in 1971, a young woman in a striped top holds a copy of Le Torchon brûle over her head, the paper of the French women's movement, next to a sign reading "We are with you French women's liberation". Martine Franck took that picture. She also photographed the paper being made: two women at a Paris table in April 1971, working on its pages.

Franck (1938-2012) photographed the Mouvement de libération des femmes through the 1970s, mostly in Paris, and many of these prints have never been shown, or appeared only in the feminist press of the day. That press is half the subject: the papers where activists tested ideas and passed their own images around.

Franck co-founded this foundation, and arts-in-the-city put it as hanging the activist she was "in the building she wanted". You'll find it in the Tube gallery, and the same ticket (€10, €6 reduced, free under 18) covers the Susan Meiselas show. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 7pm.
