Tower of London · City of London
October half-term event: step into a world of chilling tales and dare to face the spirits that roam the Tower. Included in palace admission.
Zapowiedź: napisana przed otwarciem wystawy
At 11.15, 12.45 and 14.45 each day, the Tower's ghosts gather at the Haunted Forge, timed for when the furnace burns hottest and the clang of metal peaks. The cast is a poet, a pirate, a queen, an astronomer and a bear, in theatrical costume and ghoulish make-up.
The rest of the day they wander the fortress and you hunt for them, looking for clues in windows and listening for a distant roar. Other stops on the trail are the Enchanted Wishing Well and the Raven's Observatory. Historic Royal Palaces pitches it to delight rather than fright, and nervous kids can watch from a distance.
It runs 10.30 to 16.00 through October half term and is included in Tower admission, with no separate booking. Visitors in costume are refused entry, so leave the Spider-Man suit at home: this is one Halloween outing where only the hosts get to dress up. The after-dark Yeoman Warder Ghost Tours need a separate ticket and are recommended for ages 12 and up.
The Haunted Forge gatherings
Three times a day (11.15, 12.45 and 14.45) all the ghosts converge on the forge as the furnace roars and the metal clangs.
The ghost cast
Look for a poet, a pirate, a queen, an astronomer and a bear in full costume and make-up, with clues in windows and a roar to follow.
Under-5s go free and ages 5 to 15 pay £19 with an adult; kids must stay with their grown-ups. Ghosts wear make-up with sound effects in places, so wary children can watch from a distance.
