Pokémon Fossil Museum

Trwa22 maja 2026 – 11 kwietnia 2027·Płatny wstęp – szczegóły na stronie

Fossil Pokémon such as Tyrantrum and Archeops are set side by side with the real fossils that inspired them, including SUE the T. rex. North American debut of the touring Japanese exhibition.

You walk in under Excavator Pikachu perched on top of an Aerodactyl. Inside, every fossil Pokémon gets a real partner: Lileep, a Pokémon modelled on a sea lily, stands beside a 180-million-year-old crinoid slab, and Omanyte and Omastar sit with actual ammonites.

This is the touring show from Tokyo's National Museum of Nature and Science, outside Japan for the first time. Game fossils sit on blue backgrounds and real ones on red, so you always know which is which, and the games' soundtracks play throughout. The Chicago Reader called it "relatively small" and "a cute and pleasant experience", done in 40 minutes; an oprainfall reviewer photographing everything took an hour. A cast of SUE's skull, the most famous head in Chicago, now plays straight man to Tyrantrum.

It needs a timed add-on ticket on top of general admission, capped daily, so buy ahead. Ticket holders get a promo Archeops card, and the shop across the hall admits exhibition ticket holders only, five items each.

Wybór redakcji

Tyrantrum i Archeops stoją obok prawdziwych skamieniałości, które były dla nich inspiracją – wśród nich SUE, tyranozaur. To północnoamerykański debiut objazdowej japońskiej wystawy i wizyta w Field Museum, podczas której dzieci znają więcej nazw niż ty.

Zwróć uwagę na

  • Lileep and the crinoid slab

Look for the sea-lily Pokémon standing beside the 180-million-year-old fossil slab of crinoids it was modelled on.

  • Tyrantrum, Tyrunt and SUE

The two dinosaur Pokémon stand next to a cast of the skull of SUE the T. rex, the Field Museum's own star fossil.

  • A real Triceratops brow horn

An original horn, 66 to 83 million years old, sits right next to the Shieldon and Bastiodon fossils from the games.

  • Relicanth and the coelacanth

The fish Pokémon is shown side by side with a real coelacanth, the ancient fish that inspired it.
