Muzeum starożytności egipskich (Egyptian Museum), założone przez Auguste Mariette i otwarte w 1902 roku, gromadzi ponad 120 000 artefaktów obejmujących tysiące lat historii starożytnego Egiptu. Neoklasycystyczny budynek, zaprojektowany przez francuskiego architekta Marcela Dourgnona, zajmuje eksponowane miejsce przy kairskim Tahrir Square. Kolekcja obejmuje skarby z grobowca Tutanchamona, Paletę Narmera, posągi wielkich faraonów, papirusy, monety oraz zabytki z niemal każdego okresu dziejów starożytnego Egiptu. Choć wiele obiektów – w tym Królewskie Mumie oraz część kolekcji tutanchamonowej – przeniesiono do nowszego Grand Egyptian Museum oraz National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, muzeum wciąż pozostaje jednym z najważniejszych zabytków kultury w Kairze, dysponując ogromną, wciąż eksponowaną kolekcją.
