Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts to jedyny budynek w Ameryce Północnej zaprojektowany przez urodzonego w Szwajcarii architekta Le Corbusiera, który współpracował przy tym projekcie z chilijskim architektem Guillermo Jullianem de la Fuente; obiekt otwarto w 1963 roku. Betonowa rampa w kształcie litery S unosi odwiedzających znad Quincy Street i prowadzi ich przez trzecie piętro, obok okien pracowni – stanowiąc próbę urzeczywistnienia idei „syntezy sztuk” w formie płynnej cyrkulacji przestrzennej. Dziś Carpenter Center prezentuje sztukę współczesną w galeriach Level 1, Level 3 i Sert Gallery, organizując wystawy na zamówienie, publikacje, wydarzenia publiczne oraz rezydencje artystyczne – wszystkie bezpłatne i otwarte dla publiczności. Instytucja dzieli budynek z harvardzkim Department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies oraz z Harvard Film Archive.
