Założone w 1810 roku i mieszczące się od 1889 roku w monumentalnym gmachu przy Invalidenstraße, Museum für Naturkunde należy do najważniejszych muzeów przyrodniczych na świecie oraz pełni funkcję instytutu badawczego Stowarzyszenia Leibniza, posiadając zbiory liczące około 30 milionów eksponatów. W sali dinozaurów dominuje Giraffatitan brancai – najwyższy zmontowany szkielet dinozaura na świecie – prezentowany obok najlepiej zachowanego okazu archeopteryksa, jaki kiedykolwiek odnaleziono. Poza dinozaurami zwiedzający mogą zobaczyć milion okazów zakonserwowanych w etanolu w ramach tzw. kolekcji mokrej (Wet Collection), podziwiać minerały i meteoryty, a także na żywo obserwować naukowców digitalizujących zbiory owadów bezpośrednio w salach wystawowych.
