Il National Museum of Western Art (NMWA) è la galleria nazionale giapponese dedicata all’arte occidentale, nata intorno alla collezione dell’industriale Kojiro Matsukata. Il suo edificio principale, completato nel 1959, fu progettato da Le Corbusier insieme agli architetti giapponesi Kunio Maekawa e Junzo Sakakura e nel 2016 è stato iscritto nella Lista del patrimonio mondiale dell’UNESCO come parte de «L’opera architettonica di Le Corbusier». La collezione spazia dalla pittura e dalla scultura occidentali medievali fino all’inizio del XX secolo e comprende importanti opere impressioniste e di Rodin, esposte nel piazzale antistante.
