Calling All Cats!

In corso30 settembre 2026 – 6 dicembre 2026·15 $

Emerging artist Dorian Reid tells the story of her Black Cat Revolution through ceramics, protest signs, flags and performance, linking Black Panther history and animal welfare.

You walk in to find the black cat, an animal trailed for centuries by superstition, cast as artist, neighbor, witness, troublemaker and friend. Dorian Reid's own cat is called Black Beauty, and she started it.

The ceramics, prints, flags and protest signs tell the story of the Black Cat Revolution, a club Reid founded in 2024 to fight prejudice and raise money for cats and community members. "I'm creating my own Black History with cats," she says. The jokes sit on real family history: Reid grew up in Berkeley, the daughter of historian Betty Reid Soskin, and her family ran Reid's Records. The show runs straight through Halloween, the one week a year black cats are cast as the villain on every porch.

This is Reid's first solo museum show, in the Floor 2 gallery, and no reviews are out yet. It's on the $15 museum ticket ($7 seniors, students and educators). Thursdays run to 8pm, and the second Saturday of each month is free.
