Fondata nel 2003 da Henri Cartier-Bresson, dalla moglie fotografa Martine Franck e dalla figlia Melanie, la fondazione conserva gli archivi di entrambi i fotografi, oltre 50.000 stampe e 200.000 negativi. Dal 2018 occupa un atelier alto e stretto del 1913 in rue des Archives, nel Marais, con spazi ben più ampi per le mostre e lo studio rispetto alla sede originaria di Montparnasse.
