Inaugurato nel 1819 sul Paseo del Prado, il Museo Nacional del Prado conserva la collezione nazionale spagnola di pittura e scultura europea dal XII all’inizio del XX secolo. Le sue straordinarie raccolte spagnole comprendono Las Meninas di Velázquez, le Pitture nere di Goya e la più importante concentrazione di opere di Bosch al mondo, accanto a capolavori di Tiziano, Rubens ed El Greco. Insieme ai vicini musei Reina Sofía e Thyssen-Bornemisza, il museo è uno dei vertici del «Triangolo d’oro dell’arte» di Madrid.
