Il museo del modernismo classico della Nationalgalerie, nato dalla collezione del mercante d'arte Heinz Berggruen, custodisce oltre 100 opere di Picasso e importanti nuclei di Paul Klee, Henri Matisse e Alberto Giacometti, allestiti nell'edificio occidentale Stüler di fronte a Schloss Charlottenburg. Dal 5 settembre 2022 il museo è chiuso per una ristrutturazione completa dell'edificio Stüler e non è ancora stata resa nota una data di riapertura. Durante i lavori la collezione è impegnata in una tournée internazionale (recentemente al Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, fino al 13 settembre 2026); al momento nessuna opera è esposta a Berlino. La vicina Sammlung Scharf-Gerstenberg resta regolarmente aperta.
