Hillwood war der letzte Wohnsitz der Müsli-Erbin, Sammlerin und Philanthropin Marjorie Merriweather Post, die das im georgianischen Stil der 1920er-Jahre erbaute Anwesen 1955 erwarb und in ein Museum umwandelte, das 1977 für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht wurde. Mit rund 17.000 Objekten beherbergt es die bedeutendste Sammlung russischer kaiserlicher Kunst außerhalb Russlands – darunter zwei Fabergé-Ostereier, die Nikolaus II. seiner Mutter Maria Fjodorowna schenkte, sowie Ikonen, Kelche und liturgische Textilien im Icon Room. Die französischen Salons präsentieren Sèvres-Porzellan, Porträts von Nattier, Möbel von Jean-Henri Riesener, dem Ebenisten Ludwigs XVI., sowie Posts Schmuckstücke von Cartier und Harry Winston. Im Außenbereich erstreckt sich ein gut fünf Hektar großer, von Innocenti and Webel gestalteter formaler Garten in einer Folge von Gartenräumen – vom französischen Parterre über den Rosengarten bis hin zu einem japanischen Garten von 1957 und einer russischen Datscha.
