Gegründet 1967 als erstes staatlich gefördertes Stadtteilmuseum der Vereinigten Staaten, dokumentiert das Anacostia Community Museum die Erinnerungen, Kämpfe und Erfolge der Gemeinschaften im gesamten Großraum Washington, D.C. Seine Wechselausstellungen beleuchten Lokalgeschichte, Rassismus, Umwelt, Gentrifizierung und Kreativität – gestützt auf eine reichhaltige Sammlung afroamerikanischer Kunst, Fotografie und Zeitzeugengespräche (Oral History).
