Das kompakte, fünfstöckige Museum in Shinjuku wurde von der Yayoi Kusama Memorial Art Foundation gegründet und im Oktober 2017 eröffnet. Es ist ganz der Avantgardekünstlerin Yayoi Kusama gewidmet. Statt einer dauerhaft präsentierten Sammlung zeigt das Museum etwa zweimal jährlich eine thematische Ausstellung aus Kusamas eigenem Werk – von frühen Zeichnungen bis zu raumgreifenden Spiegelinstallationen und aufblasbaren Skulpturen. Der Eintritt ist ausschließlich mit einem vorab online gebuchten Ticket und zu einem festen 90-Minuten-Zeitfenster möglich. So bleiben die Besucherzahlen gering und der Rundgang entspannt.
