Das Museu Nacional do Teatro e da Dança beherbergt die größte Sammlung zur darstellenden Kunst in Portugal: mehr als 300.000 Objekte, darunter Bühnenkostüme, Bühnenbildentwürfe und -modelle, Requisiten, Plakate, Programmhefte, Tonaufnahmen, Partituren, Fotografien und Karikaturen. Es ist im Palácio do Monteiro-Mor aus dem 18. Jahrhundert in Lumiar untergebracht – zusammen mit einem Dokumentationszentrum und einer Bibliothek mit rund 40.000 Titeln. Das Museum ist seit dem 1. November 2025 wegen einer umfassenden Sanierung des Gebäudes und der Gartenanlagen geschlossen. Finanziert wird sie durch den portugiesischen Aufbau- und Resilienzplan (PRR); ein Wiedereröffnungstermin wurde noch nicht bekannt gegeben.
