Scottish Portrait Awards 2026

Demnächst28. November 2026 – 11. April 2027·Eintritt frei

The Scottish Portrait Awards come to the Portrait for the first time: fine art, photography and Scotland Now! phone portraits by artists born, living or studying in Scotland.

Vorschau: geschrieben vor der Eröffnung

A young cyclist looks past the camera, her face, helmet and jersey caked in mud. That is Jude Bytheway's Beth, After the Race, one of 187 works picked from nearly 2,500 entries to the Scottish Portrait Awards, which move into the Portrait for the first time.

Anyone over 16 who was born, lives or studies in Scotland could enter, so established artists hang beside people showing work in public for the first time. There are 64 fine art works, including sculpture, film and, new this year, animation, and 63 photographs whose sitters range from a newborn baby to a centenarian. If you live in Scotland and own a phone, you could have been in it too: the Scotland Now! category was free to enter, and its 60 picks play on a screen in the gallery.

Winners are announced in the opening week, and the two main winners each get a commission for the national collection. It runs from 28 November to 11 April 2027, daily 10am to 5pm.

Mit Kindern

Entrants had to be over 16, so the youngest artists here are teenagers. A free drop-in family session, Shortlisted: YOU!, runs 15 to 19 February 2027, 2 to 4pm, and the gallery has a buggy park and baby changing.
