Das National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), eingeweiht am 3. April 2021, liegt im historischen Stadtteil Fustat im alten Kairo, direkt am Ufer des Ain El-Sira-Sees. Auf einer Fläche von rund 14 Hektar ist es das erste Museum in der arabischen Welt, das der gesamten Geschichte einer Zivilisation gewidmet ist. Die Sammlung mit 50.000 Artefakten ist in thematische Galerien gegliedert, die die Anfänge der Zivilisation, den Nil, die Schrift, Staat und Gesellschaft, materielle Kultur sowie Glauben und Denken behandeln. Herzstück ist die Royal Mummies Hall im Untergeschoss, in der 22 königliche Mumien ausgestellt sind – darunter Ramses II., Hatschepsut und Thutmosis III. –, die im Rahmen der gefeierten Golden Parade 2021 aus dem Egyptian Museum am Tahrir Square überführt wurden. Zu den weiteren Einrichtungen zählen ein Textilmuseum, ein antikes Färberhaus, Wechselausstellungsräume, eine Bibliothek, ein Café und ein Museumsshop.
